Overview

Tohoku International University and Fukushima National College of Technology's "Japan-U.S. University Reconstruction and Creation Exchange Project: Creating a Community for the Future" (2023-2027) has been selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Project to Strengthen University Global Expansion Capabilities - Supporting the Formation of Inter-University Exchanges with the United States and Other Countries" funded by the University Education Revitalization Strategy Promotion Fund for FY2023.

This project by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology aims to promote exchanges between universities and students in Japan and the United States and to strengthen strategic international networks from the grassroots level. This time, 17 national, public and private universities across the country applied, and 12 universities were selected. Our university is the only one selected from the Tohoku region. In addition, this Global Expansion Strengthening Project has been carried out every year since 2011, but this is the first time that Tohoku International University has been selected as a local private university.

Tohoku International University, in cooperation with Fukushima National College of Technology and Fukushima Hamadori Tri-Dec, has partnered with Washington State University Tri-Cities, Columbia Basin Junior College, and Hanford Tri-Dec, which are located in the Hanford region of the United States with which it has had long-standing exchanges, to promote the "Japan-US University Reconstruction and Creation Exchange Program to Create a Community Connected to the Future" and to promote an exchange program to consider what kind of innovations can be created to reconstruct and sustain the local community. This exchange program is centered on international exchange between the Fukushima Hamadori region of Japan and the Hanford region of Washington State, USA. Both regions share the historical experience of nuclear development and reconstruction, and are in a unique position to learn from each other and jointly foster innovation in students, which is not found in other regions.

Students to be developed

In a region that faces historical challenges arising from the development of nuclear power, we aim to foster "internationally creative human resources who will transcend the boundaries of the arts and sciences and take on the responsibility of revitalizing the region."
