Objective of this project
For the reconstruction and revitalization
Create innovation
Nurturing the next generation
How can we revitalize communities in the face of challenges arising from nuclear development?
By combining the knowledge gained from the Hanford region in the United States, which has already made great strides in recovery, with the knowledge gained from the ongoing recovery efforts in the Hamadori region of Fukushima Prefecture, we will cultivate international knowledge for regional revitalization in each region.

Class curriculum
(On-demand lecture)
Fukushima Prefecture Hamadori region and
Hanford Area, USA
Learn about history and the present.

Fukushima Hamadori Reconstruction and Creation Studies
This lecture will teach students about the reconstruction of the Hamadori region of Fukushima Prefecture, including what efforts have been made since the Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in 2011, and what current issues exist. Students will learn about the current state of regional reconstruction from various angles from experts and practitioners involved in local activities, and consider the future of the Hamadori region.
Hanford Nuclear Legacy Lecture Series
This on-demand lecture will teach you about the history of nuclear facility operation in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State (the Hanford Site site) and how the surrounding area has recovered from the associated evictions, health damage, and environmental issues. Produced in collaboration with a US university, it will cultivate an intellectual foundation for reexamining the major challenge of recovery from a nuclear disaster from a global and historical perspective.

Through COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) , learn from the trajectory of Japan-US reconstruction efforts
from nuclear desaster.

Hanford Study Tour
(Tri-Cities, Washington State)
This overseas training program will visit Washington State in the United States and provide a first-hand look at local reconstruction and environmental restoration. In collaboration with local partner universities and local organizations, participants will learn about sustainable regional regeneration methods and the importance of international cooperation.
Summer Inbound Program
(Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Hamadori)
We accept students from partner universities in the United States and visit Nagasaki, Hiroshima, and the Hamadori region of Fukushima Prefecture to learn about the historical and contemporary issues facing the region.
